Standard IIB Personal Reflection:

I found the idea of creating a classroom newsletter quite intriguing. Appropriate and prompt communication is critical in any professional environment and for a classroom teacher, communication to parents is an essential part of involving them with their child's education. Since most every school and classroom now has a web page, an electronic newsletter would be a quick and easy way to convey information to parents. This would be a great way to establish a connection with parents before the school year starts and to communicate on important events throughout the academic year. In addition, it is not necessary that the teacher write the entire newletter. Instead, student teams can be assigned to write the various columns and sections on a weekly basis (with periodic rotations), and then publish it electronically as an ongoing class project. This not only allows students the opportunity to practive their writing and editing skills, it enhances their technology skills, stimulates the creative process, and instills a sense of accomplishment since the finished product is their responsibility, with the teacher acts as an advisor and contributes only some of the information.
